Who is Georgia Mae?

Georgia Mae is a general interest blog based in Birmingham, Ala., and published by yours truly, Javacia Harris Bowser, and Edward T. Bowser, this really awesome dude to whom I happen to be married. “General interest” is a fancy way of saying that, much like our marriage, we get up each day and throw stuff against the metaphorical wall and see what sticks. Things that have stuck so far include: music, feminism and women’s issues (especially those pertaining to body image), and race matters. Since we’re happily hitched, we occasionally seek to give relationship advice too, for what it’s worth. Sometimes I use this as a digital diary and just write about my life in an effort try to make it seem more interesting than it probably is. I’m also obsessed with natural hair, which means my blog is too.

Okay, that’s great, but who is Georgia Mae?

This blog is named after my grandmother Georgia Mae Price. She passed away in 2002, but lives on in all I do. She practically helped raise me. Her unwavering faith in God and the stories of the work she did in the Civil Rights Movement have always inspired me.  I named this blog for her to honor her legacy.
